Mrs. Wolny

Welcome to Second Grade!

My name is Mrs. Wolny and I will be your child's teacher this year.  This is my seventeenth year with Clinton Elementary and my eleventh year teaching second grade.  I am really excited to be working with you and your child this school year! It is such a privilege to spend time with your precious children during the day.  Thank you for sharing them with me!

Parents and family members play a very important role in your student's education.  We can make this a positive and productive school year for your student by working together.  Communication is key to your child's academic success.  I strive to keep communication open.  Please look for a weekly newsletter in your child's folder at the beginning of each week.  This will let you know what we're working on in the classroom and upcoming events we're looking forward to.

If you have questions please send a note in your child's folder, email, or call.  I check my email throughout the day, so this is usually the best method to contact me.  Call me at 825-3113 ext. 240 or email me at

Second grade is a big year and I look forward to learning and growing along with your children!

General Information

Library Books

Library books may be kept for one week. Library day is on Tuesday this year, so all books should be back by Tuesday morning.

Gym Shoes

Please wear appropriate shoes on Mondays and Wednesdays (during the first and third quarters) and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (during the second and fourth quarters).  Your child may choose to leave his/her gym shoes at school.

Your child is very welcome to bring treats on his or her birthday.  Please remember, if you are sending birthday party invitations to school, there must be one for each child in the class.  Any summer birthdays may be celebrated during the school year.

Your child will bring home a folder every night. Please check it daily for notes, homework, school notices etc. You may use these to send in lunch money and notes to me. Your child needs to bring his/her folder back every morning.

Homework will be sent home two nights a week. You can help your child remember homework by checking his or her folder every night. Homework will be due back by the following day.

Show and Tell

We will be having Show and Tell each Friday.  Your child is welcome to bring something to share with the class.  The item must fit inside your child’s backpack and not be breakable.  I appreciate your help in making sure that toys only come to school on Fridays for Show and Tell.

Your child will bring home a spelling pretest every Monday.  It’s always a good idea to practice the words and sentences each night.  Spelling tests will be on Friday.  On occasion (short weeks, holidays) this schedule will change.  I’ll let you know when this occurs.

Reading Log

Exposing your child to quality literature on a daily basis is one of the best ways to encourage good reading habits.  Your child will get a reading log at the beginning of each month to fill out.  You can read to your child, your child can read alone, or you can read together. Please read at least 15 minutes per day and initial the sheet.  I will collect the reading logs monthly and the students who have read at least 300 minutes will get a prize.

"The more you read, the more things you will know.

The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
